1945 – 2020
This morning we lost a figure that has contributed to Glodok art scene through his dedication in Chinese calligraphy. Apak Lioe has been a Friend to our family and an Artist that we always look up to when we need to commission pieces of painting, calligraphy and kimpo.
Apak has been struggling to fight his light stroke and organ failures for month. Exactly a month ago I made a phone call to him asking whether he wants to do any more work and all that’s left in him was his pain to see how his hands are not fully performing as his minds wants to, which I can hear on his breaking voice.
I’ve been privileged to be working with Apak Lioe for the past years and to be inspired by his modest life. All that’s left in me is his grace in art and how much I wish I could’ve preserve more stories from him to be passed on for the future generations.
Fear of regret. Has and always been my biggest challange. Today I got hit real hard with the truth of life. That time waits for no one.
I hope this can inspire us to be better as a being and to wisely pursuit our life’s calling. May Apak Lioe rest in peace, your legacy forever lives in our heart —
We will be reproducing some of Apak Lioe’s work to share his spirit to more kindered soul. Profit to be donated to Lioe Ren Chen’s family
